Anaïs Lievens

Anaïs Lievens is a type designer and teacher based in Ghent (BE).

She completed an MA in Type design at the University of Reading, an MA in Graphic design at LUCA School of Arts, a postgraduate at the Plantin Institute of Typography and a teacher’s training at Ghent University. 

She worked for foundries such as F37 Foundry (GB), Typofonderie (FR), Brand New Type (IN), Universal Thirst (IN/IS).

These sketches are based on lettering in the 16th century atlas ‘Theatre de l’univers’ by Abraham Ortelius.

Abraham Ortelius credits Franciscus Hogenberg with engraving nearly all the maps.

The atlas is located at museum Plantin-Moretus, Antwerp (BE).
